SIERRA CLUB ENDORSES SANDRA FLUKE FOR SENATE
Momentum Continues as California Environmentalists Support Fluke
Sierra Club, one of the most trusted and well respected environmental organizations in the state, today endorsed Sandra Fluke. The Sierra Club is the nation’s largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization, representing nearly 150,000 members across California.
"We are proud to endorse Sandra Fluke for State Senate," said Kathryn Phillips, Director of Sierra Club California. "She is committed to the environment and we believe she will demonstrate that commitment in public office."
Marcia Hanscom, Executive Committee Member for Sierra Club's Angeles Chapter & former National Sierra Club Board Member said: “Sandra is a true environmental champion - we know we can trust her to always stand with us, and that she will never waver on her commitment to creating a cleaner and greener California."
Sandra believes that global climate change is one of the most critical issues of our time, which is why she has spoken out in support of a statewide fracking moratorium, plastic bag ban, and why solving our water crisis, investing in transportation alternatives and protecting our coast are among her top priorities. She is also commitment to protecting the state's natural resources, including our parks, ecological reserves and unique plants and animals.
Fluke said: “Ensuring that future generations of Californians have access to clean water, clean air, and open space is a top priority of mine and I will take that unwavering commitment with me to Sacramento. The Sierra Club’s decades of work to protect our environment is an inspiration to me and I am honored to have their support. ”
Fluke has previously been endorsed by a number of prominent California environmental activists and organizations, including the California League of Conservation Voters; Nancy Sutley, Former Chair, White House Council on Environmental Quality; Mary Nichols, Chair, California Air Resources Board*; activist Ed Begley Jr.; Wendy Mitchell, Commissioner, California Coastal Commission*; Jonathan Parfrey, Executive Director, Climate Resolve*; Sue Gunther, California Democratic Party Environmental Caucus Secretary; Aaron Paley, Executive Director and Co-Founder, CicLAvia*; Jean Watt, President, Friends of Harbors, Beaches and Parks; and Dianne Dillon-Ridgley, National Wildlife Federation* Board of Directors. * For ID purposes only.
Last week, the Fluke campaign released a poll that shows Sandra is leading her opponent by an impressive seven point margin with an 18 percent name ID advantage. The detailed polling memo from Garin Hart Yang Research Group can be found here: http://www.standwithsandra.org/polling-memo. With Fluke’s lead in the polls and her continued accumulation of influential endorsements like Sierra Club California, the momentum is undeniably in her favor.
