Sandra Fluke claims fundraising lead over opponent Ben Allen in Senate race
By Nick Green, Daily Breeze
West Hollywood activist Sandra Fluke is trumpeting her fundraising advantage over state Senate opponent Ben Allen, while also slamming him for receiving more than $700,000 in independent expenditures from wealthy Manhattan Beach businessman Bill Bloomfield.
Fluke reported receiving almost $475,000 in the latest campaign finance reporting period ending Sept. 30 compared to just over $300,000 for fellow Democrat Allen, her opponent in the 26th District contest that will be decided Nov. 4.
That means Fluke’s campaign has received about $1.1 million since the start of the year compared to almost $965,000 for Allen, who served two terms on the school board in Santa Monica.
But Fluke’s campaign also noted that Allen’s independent expenditures have helped him remain competitive in the campaign, while she has relied more on small donors.
The new district stretches from Hollywood and runs through Santa Monica and South Bay coastal cities to the Palos Verdes Peninsula.
