Fluke finished second behind Ben Allen, a fellow Democrat, in Tuesday’s primary race for a state Senate seat in Southern California. They both advance to the Nov. 4 general election because of California’s unique primary rules in which the top two vote-getters move on regardless of party. Fluke gained national fame in 2012 when Limbaugh called her a “slut” and a “prostitute” on his radio show for her support of President Obama’s health care law.

Frontiers LA: Sandra Fluke to Vie with Ben Allen for California Senate District 26

The Los Angeles News Group called it—endorsing both educator Ben Allen and reproductive rights activist Sandra Fluke in their Daily News and Daily Breeze newspapers to succeed the South Bay State Senate seat being vacated by Ted Lieu. Allen, a member of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District, won 21.9% of the vote, becoming the top vote-getter out of eight candidates vying for the open seat. Fluke, a public interest attorney and West Hollywood resident, came in second with 19.4% of the vote. She and Allen will battle it out in November.
